“And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.” – Exodus 33:11
As I was reading this verse the other day, I thought how wonderful and amazing it would be to speak to the Lord face to face just as we do a friend. The Holy Spirit reminded me, however, that even though we cannot speak to the Lord face to face, we have the privilege of having the Holy Spirit living inside of us, and we can speak to God any time we desire to do so, just as Moses did. We can know that God hears us and cares about us and our needs.
God’s Word encourages us to pray, for it says “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). There are times we may be overwhelmed, thinking there is no one to talk to, no one who understands, no one who cares, or no one who can help with the problem we are facing or burden we are bearing. Those statements may be true humanly speaking, but they are never true for God. He cares, He knows and understands, and He can help! He is the greatest friend we can ever have. We can come to Him at any time, knowing He has the power to help. We can and need to have a close relationship with Him, more than any other friend on this earth. While in fellowship with Him we have the blessing of being able to come to Him and receive grace and peace knowing that He loves us and that He is in control.
- We can talk to God about anything, for He already knows it all.
- We are commanded to cast all our cares upon Him because He cares for us (I Peter 5:7).
- Prayer is powerful: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16).
What do you need to bring to the Lord today? Talk to Him as a friend.
